ARIEL
Model: Weekender
Design #: 208
Year: 1939
Builder: Viv Innes, built in Cygnet, Tasmania, Australia
I believe Ariel was the second boat built outside of the USA that was approved by Olin Stephens. He signed off the original design drawing which are now held in Hobart , Tarmania.
She was used as a "war watch" boat on the Derwent during the 1939 war. She sucessfully raced for over 50 years on the Derwent River and areas around Hobart. She is built of Huon Pine and Blackbut which are superb yacht timbers.
Still original except for the engine and a new mast, and I have the original Nevis Compass. I race her every week and we still win both on handicap and line honours.
