HISTORY
In 1964 the Swedish entrepreneur Lennart Milton awarded a contract to the the shipyard owner Thure Edstöm in Farösund on Gotland, Sweden for the order of a deep-sea yacht. The Swede Ole Enderlein and the American yacht design office Sparkman & Stephens New York, were commissioned for planning, construction, equipment and construction supervision. In 1965 the planning was completed and construction started in 1966. The launch took place with great interest from the media.
At that time the "Bohemia" was the first and biggest sailing yacht in Sweden with an aluminium hull, the deck was made of teak, the superstructure and the interior were made of Honduras Mahaghony to the highest boat building quality. Top English suppliers such as Lewmar for winches and fittings, Sparcraft for masts and rigs, and the then leading American sail maker Hood for the complete sailing wardrobe completed the exclusive and expensive construction of this yacht.
In 1967 the most famous regattas took place:
"Gotland Round" 1967 1st in her class
Admirals Cup "Fastnet Race" 1967- 7th in class.
Bohemia sailed in the next years mainly in the Baltic Sea excellent placings. In 1984 Thorbjörn Steen, a dinner jacket manufacturer from Stockholm, took over the Bohemia and equipped the yacht for a long-distance circumnavigation of the world. For personal reasons, however, the voyage was only extended to the Balearic Islands and then back to Stockholm in the early 90s.
It was bought by W. Richard Smolka in 1994 and since then has been owned by the family, today it is looked after and sailed by Philipp Smolka and Richard. Since the beginning many trips have been undertaken in the Baltic Sea, North Sea and North Atlantic as far as Norway, Faroer and Scotland.
